Grandad and Izzy at the beginning of creating a new piece. Will the grain work? What shape will it end up being? Even Grandad is not totally sure at the moment (although he has an idea) because each piece of wood is individual.
Work has begun - total concentration from Grandad as he makes a vase appear from a piece of rosewood.
What a lot of tools! How can such delicate pieces be created with these chisels? (The miniature turning tools are much smaller!)
A tiny little vase is appearing from this piece of rosewood. It is half the size of Grandad's fingernail - how does he do it?
Grandad has oiled the piece in order to check the grain - you can see that it looks much less dusty than in the picture above. Izzy is admiring how shiny and pretty it looks!
Now Grandad is removing the vase from the block it has been turned out of. Izzy is watching carefully to make sure he keeps all his fingers!
A final quality check from Izzy - the vase is in there somewhere! She is obviously pleased.
